The training programme will be one of the most important undertakings of the AIST and so it has been the first project to be realized. Even while the association itself is still only in the process of forming and a membership being gathered, the first training courses have taken place and future ones planned.

In August 2005 two Venue Risk Assessment courses were held, one in the Dunamaise in Portlaoise and one in the Cork Opera House. The two day course cost €120 per person and there were twelve places available on each. The attendees were a mixture of house techs from North, South East and West, freelance techs, production managers and stage managers. The course examined health and safety at work legislation and how to prepare a Risk Assessment register. It covered safety policy, codes of practice, fire risk assessment, accident reporting procedures and provided electronic formatted risk assessment models for stage workshop, wardrobe and FOH staff.
